Suzie Wignal

Having lived on a coast most of my life, I have very much been inspired by water and its inhabitants and nature in itself.  This shows up in most of my work as a potter.  My work is mainly Raku and handbuilt from slabs of clay.  I build unique one-of-a-kind-pieces such as the wall-mounted fish pictured here.

I began studying pottery when I lived in Ohio many years ago. After starting a family, and living in several areas of the country, in 1975 my husband took a job with Schlumberger and we moved to Houston settling in Clear Lake City.  At that time, I learned about pottery classes at The College of the Mainland.  I took classes from Marilyn Heath, Judy Boh (Blossman) and later Betty Polifika.  It was then that I discovered that I really enjoyed hand-building.  At the college there was a group of potters that had formed a group known as the Salt Grass Potters.  I joined them and am still a member 25 years later.  It was through that group that I found out about and joined the then recently formed Potters Guild that was at the time located in Rice Village.

Since retiring from the Guild, I have remained active in local events and exhibitions, including shows in Rockport for the 4th of July festival, Artoberfest in Galveston and annual local shows with other artists, including Salt Grass Potters.
